What gets tested at interview
Modelling, usually in a live exercise. Not whether you know a function, but whether your model is structured so somebody else can follow it, change an assumption and trust the output. Hard-coded numbers inside formulas end more interviews than weak arithmetic.
The second test is commercial. Given a set of results, can you say what actually caused the variance rather than describing it. The distinction between explaining a number and restating it is the whole job.
Where it leads
Analysis is one of the better launch points in finance because it puts you next to the decisions. Common routes on are into commercial finance business partnering, into a finance manager role with a team, or sideways into strategy and corporate development.
Part-qualified is normal at entry and most employers fund the rest. Ask what the study support actually covers: exam fees, materials, study leave and a first-attempt policy are four separate things and adverts often mention only the first.
